Hertha Alwine Bergren Mahl Klotz
November 13, 1929 - October 24, 2020
Hertha Alwine Bergren Mahl Klotz passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Malibu on October 24, 2020, with her loving family by her side.

She was born in New York City on November 13, 1929 to Alwine and Karl Bergren and grew up with her Sister Eleanor in Washington Heights. She graduated early from George Washington High School. She married Harold Edward Mahl when they were both 19 years old.
She had a long and wonderful life, from New York City out to Remsenburg, New York, and finally all the way to Malibu, California. Over the years Hertha travelled to many beautiful places. She and her sister Eleanor cruised through the Swedish Archipelago, visited family in Sweden and Estonia and stopped along the way in Norway, Finland and Denmark. She travelled to the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico and also enjoyed vacationing in Hawaii with her children and grandchildren.

Hertha was quick-witted, intelligent, a voracious reader and had a continued interest in learning. She had a sharp mind and a great sense of humor and always told it like it was. She met and married the great artist Fred “Pete” Klotz, Jr, who was also very smart and funny, and they lived together in Westhampton Beach, NY.
Hertha studied to receive her Masters’ Degree at Southampton College and worked as a Postmaster at the US Postal Service. Upon retiring from the Post Office, she worked at a local bookstore in Westhampton Beach, NY. She continued to enjoy her work as an Editor and Proofreader for the family business up until October of 2020.
Hertha would have been 91 on November 13, 2020. We will miss her dearly as she leaves us an amazing legacy: the importance of education, hard work, determination, dedication, good humor and chocolate.

Although Hertha has passed, we know that she continues to guide us, now and through eternity. We love you Mom, Sister, Cousin, Aunt, Wife, Grandmother and Friend, Hertha.

Hertha leaves her Children Michael, Vivian and Adrien, her Grandchildren Alvina, Michael, Axel and Ella and her Sister Eleanor Bergren Auer.

Once we can travel again, a memorial service will be held for Hertha, followed by a ceremony at Moriches Bay in Remsenburg, NY
